Betta Keeping Scare Short Story

》Tank Catastrophe《

It was a beautiful, calm, quiet fall day. I was sipping a warm cup of coffee while peacefully watching my betta adventure around in his tank as I reclined in my big cozy chair. All was perfect, until my little brother crashed through the front door with an obnoxious scream “I’m hoomeee!”

Instantly, the atmosphere around me was pure chaos. He ran throughout the house, gathering his toys, making them crash into each other, throwing them across the room, all while putting my anxiety through the roof. As much as I hate to, I need to confront him.

”Please calm down, you’re being way too wild. You’re going to break something.”

”You’re not the boss of me!” He screamed then ran away with a toy car in his grasp.

I sighed and picked up some of his toys. Mom and dad aren’t here to control him, so the least I can do is clean up his mess. Then I realized what he ran off with, that’s dad’s antique diecast car, dad would be furious!

”Alex! Put dad’s car back, now!” I chased him down.

”It’s mine!” He screamed as he ran into my room.

”Get out of there, you’re going to break my stuff!” I followed him.

”You want it? Fine!” He threw it and it crashed into my betta’s tank behind me, smashing it into pieces. The car fell to the ground and it’s doors flew off in multiple directions. His smile dropped to the floor and he quickly apologized “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, Liz! Can I help?”

I set aside my anger and ignored his apology while I frantically searched for something to scoop my betta up in. Luckily, I had a glass of water on my bedside table within reach so I grabbed that and quickly put my betta in it.

”If you want to help, go get some towels. Don’t step on the glass though.” I said with an expressionless face. Alex ran out of the room while maintaining a great distance from me. Wise choice I must say, I was 2 seconds away from body slamming the kid.

I’ll leave the punishing for dad to handle, though. When he sees the damage that Alex has done, he’ll be grounded for the rest of his life.
