Hello everybody! So I decided to this Amino because I’m gonna get a betta! I have a 5.2 gallon tank and I’m gonna be getting silk plants, maybe some real plants, smooth rocks and things like that. But I do have two questions. First off, I wanna know what you guys use to start your tank. I’m gonna be buying my Beta from a pet store cause it’s my only choice and I’m gonna get the one that looks the healthiest. I also wonder if you could put drift wood in the tank, would it be to sharp or would it be fine??

There’s a quicker way to starting your tank if you go to you local fish store you can probably by some beneficial bacterial in a little bottle and squirt some in there and wait maybe a little 30 min or a day if you want and it will start your cycle

I’m not positive what you mean by starting the tank. If you’re talking about starting a cycle, an easy way is adding fish food to the fishless tank.

For the second question, yes you can definitely add driftwood! Make sure if aquarium safe, and if there are sharp bits you can just file/otherwise dull it out. I’d recommend boiling and/or soaking it before hand unless you want a tank that looks like tea.

Real plants look beautiful in tanks, and some of my favorites or El Niño ferns, anubias, and Java ferns. If you don’t feel like real plants, silk plants are always an option and there are plenty of really nice looking ones!
