One eye??

Update: I called petco and they said they wouldn’t give me the fish for free or discount. So I went back to the store to see if he was still there. The lady said she found the fish and took him off the shelves. Well he was still there!

When I asked the lady why she didn’t take the one eyed swim bladder fish off the shelves she said she must of pulled the wrong one. But all the other fish were still there!

My mom who came with me got pretty upset after they said they will treat him after grabbing him out of our hands.

My mom said “treat him or flush him?!”

I really hope he gets the treatment he needs. Even then they should adopt him out. A one eyed disabled fish will need help. And I could see some little kid buying him cause he looks cool with one eye.

I really wish I could have done more. Pretty disappointed

There is this betta at petco. I didn’t get a picture but I found pictures that look exactly like him

He is a gorgeous red male veiltail that has either swim bladder or dropsy though it looks like swim bladder.

And a missing eye?

If my ten gal was ready I would have gotten him and asked for him for free or discounted

But it is not. The water is cycled but there are no plants or hides.

Could I diy hides and put it in a temporary small tank? I would use the cycled water

This guy has been on my mind for a while.

This is what his eye looked like

A lot of the time when u ask for them free or discounted they won’t sell them to u at all an take them to the back an they end up unfortunately dying. I normally just pay full price for rescues. Sorry about your luck. Friendly reminder to the comments do not store shame make sure your following our guidelines.

Do you think they would just put him back on the shelves? I might go back tomorrow to see if he is still there

Fish with specialized care requirements are very difficult and time consuming so unless you have that time and patience I’d say no even if you diy hides but if you do you can collect drift wood from shoreline of lakes or use a terracotta pot or buy a peice of mopani drift wood at petco or pet smart or local fish store

I will definitely do more research on his conditions and possible conditions. Also just for future knowledge.

He would only be in a small tank/tub for a few days while the plants for my ten gal arrive. They are live plants off Etsy so it takes about a week to arrive. I was thinking like a few small terra-cotta pots. I’ve seen people use them but I’m not sure if they are safe. I also have a small fake silk plant and bridge hide from my last tanks.

Those will work fine for bettas if you do find sharp edges sand them with high grit sand paper start at 250 then 400 or 500 the move all the way up to 1000 blind fish really have issues finding food so feeding will take a long time and he’ll likely miss a lot of the food so I’d get a turkey Baster to pick up left overs and for swim bladder disorder peas can help but it’s hard to get a betta to eat them so if you do goodluck and may you have the patience of a saint also feeding tweezers
