Hi everyone! I'm in the beginning stages of research. I will have an empty 10 gallon tank and I wanted to try and do an aquarium setup with it. I haven't kept a beta in about 8 or 9 years so I have some learning to do. If anyone can leave like product suggestions, care advice, etc. I'd be so grateful! Thank you in advance!

Yeah I'm very excited! It may be a couple months time before the tank is free but that gives me more time to do my research on cycling and betta care. :)

Let me break it down for you.

HOUSING

- tank/pond size.

at least 5 gallons for standard. 10 gallons for king. 15 gallons for giant.

- substrate

gravel, sand, aquasoil or bare bottom will do. Sand and aquasoil are safer for fish and plants

- plants

live or silk plants, bettas love densely planted tanks, plastic plants can damage their fins and lead to death.

.

floaters such as water lettuce, water spangle, hornwort, duckweed, frogbit, etc, are good.

.

java fern and anubias are plants that NEED to be tied/glued to decor or hardscape.

.

some of my other favourites are swords such as melon, Amazon and rose swords; marimo and mosses such as java and willow moss

- hardscape (rocks + driftwood + bogwood)

rocks and wood for the tank for plants to be tied/glued on and make the tank look better!

avoid decor with paint or sharp edges

WATER CARE

- cycle tank at least one month prior to getting a fish and ACCLIMATE

- water changes weekly

- water tests frequently, api freshwater master kit

- beneficial bacteria

- water conditioner

- filter + heater of the right wattage

- temperature

- water parameters are correct

DIET

- A good pellet such as:

Hikari biogold; Fluval Bugbites betta; Onega One Betta Buffet pellets; New Life Spectrum Betta

- bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mysis, tubifex, etc

Pellets should be fed twice a day, each feeding 2-4 pellets (though Bugbites and NLS have smaller pellets), though you can have one day of fasting per week

You can feed bloodworms once or twice a week, same with the other things. I have a schedule that feeds different invertebrate meats every day, like one day brine shrimp, the nest tubifex and so on

No problem  I copied and pasted this from a goldfish amino and then edited it which is why pond size is in there, ignore it

Hi!! I am new here as well! I have not kept a fish in over 13 years!I just purchased my first 10 gallon as well and currently cycling with beta now for 2 weeks :) Everyone here is extremely helpful and so are those wikis, though I do most my research on my own through articles and YouTube. My fav youtubers right now regarding fish and tanks are KG TROPICALS & Girl talks fish (a gamers wife)! All of their videos are beyond informative and goes through the facts and myths of keeping fish healthy :)
