This is the 3rd time I've done this and it seems to work. I run both filters and sponge filters so that helps me to it. First, I set up the tank, add the chemicals, with a new filter. Then I borrow from another tank, the sponge from a sponge filter. I replace it with a clean one, but I leave the old media filter in that tank so I dont loose the cycle. Then from another tank, I replace the media filter, the sponge filter still has the cycle, I then take that media and just toss it in the tank itself, so it helps bring the cycle quicker. Only people that have alot ot tanks and can play around with this can really do it, cause your taking from 2 different tanks. But having 7 cycled tanks I can do it. So Lemon Drops tank is cycling, I'll check the permrameters later tonight. But heres his tank as of right now

That's all well and good but I think it's important to let the beneficial bacteria really grow for a week or so to get the full benefits of them. I like your idea though! I'm just mainly concerned about amonia spikes, then again I have cherry shrimps with my betta so being overly concerned about that is my job.
Totally understandable. I just tested
Ph 7.0
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0.25
Nitrate 5.0
Now to make everything balance out I added an air stone. Adding more air into the tank will level it off by morning. I should of set the tank up sooner, but Jack was behaving in the divided, until last night. I knew I had to cycle quick. After cleaning the tanks today, Jack got ed the divider and made a bee line for Lemon Drop. I fixed it, Jack found another way thru. I made the decision to move Lemon Drop right then. Because I do have 2 pieces of used media, the bacteria is there. It's just not built up in the new filter media. But Lemon Drop, his cory, his snail and his floating plants are all doing good.
