The Sinister Four

Hello There

Here I am today with my participation of the #RRC

This will feature my famous quatuor, Bumi, Baatar, Iroh and Bolin. Each of them will have their roles and they will all be linked.

Let's start with

◆ Bumi ◆

In this, Bumi wouldn't actually be an "usual" vilain, as he would use other people as his puppets. They would work for him, and as he wouldn't share anything about himself, they couldn't tell who was commanding them.

The first thing he would have been behind are the Equalists. He believed that their goal was.. Lively. His jealousy against his siblings, and his visceral hatred towards his father only making his intentions worse. He shared informations with Amon about the police, as he was still a Commander at that time. It was a great chance to weaken the police a little bit too, right ?

But as Amon got defeated, as no links were to even come close to him, Bumi was left innocent.

He didn't act during the Unalaq thing, he wasn't interested by it and was too focused to get close to the Avatar. And also, keep an eye on the young Bolin as he saw him seething with anger, directly pointed at his own brother. It would be interisting to see some act of.. Rebellion, don't you think ?

When the Air benders appeared, and that he awakened his air bending, Bumi was overflowed with both rage and happiness. He hated the fact that he had his father's powers, but ultimately accepted it and decided to use it against his own kind. But like with Amon, he had to act in the shadows.

When Zaheer escaped with his Team, it was just perfect. So, so perfect. He shared informations about Korra, the Air Nomads and everything he knew to them. He was the one to suggest that Zaheer goes to the Air Nomads as a "bender in distress", hoping he would destroy them from the inside. Bumi was annoyed when Zaheer eventually got defeated. And nobody could believe Zaheer's words of Bumi's being a traitor. Why would the first born of the Avatar try to destroy them, Uh ?

But it didn't meant he stopped his actions. Iroh, his ex apprentice, told him about this Beifong kid who seemed to have a bad relationship with his family...

◇ Iroh ◇

Iroh, as a General, actually keeps tracks of EVERYTHING. He makes sure that any informations, from allies and ennemies, come to him.

He was heavily influenced by Bumi, however, he is in total control of his actions. He believed in everything his old mentor told him and still believe in it.

With his rank, and the title of Future Firelord, he has an enormous protection and nobody could even think that he actually was behind some major fights between nations, and even the escape of the Red Lotus. He had asked for the security to lessen, so giving the group the chance to escape. He kept with Bumi to decide on what to do, how to do it and when.

And he met Baatar during Kuvira's ascent..

◆ Baatar ◆

Baatar was always seen as a "special" child, and had been given a special treatment. He was a quiet kid, not showing his emotions entirely, and it obviously scared his family.

But, when he has seen on how his siblings were treated, it made something click. Anger and hate started growing in him. He hoped to get out of this prison. Of Zaofu. So he learned the more he could about bending and everything, trained at such a level that he isolated himself from his family. At such a point that the neglect became worse and that even his siblings stopped talking to him, more and more. And it only made Baatar become violent and snarky.

When Kuvira proposed to follow her for her plans, he accepted. But he felt nothing towards her, so never asked her out. And it was during these times that Baatar met Iroh (Yes, if I can make my OTP appear, I'll make it appear).

Iroh talked to him about Bumi and his plans, he felt like a light was finally appearing in his life. It was his savior. So without any hesitation, Baatar accepted to help them.

He watched Kuvira try to take control of Republic City, making sure he would be taken as "innocent". During this, Baatar truly met Bolin who seemed to be the group's "Ugly Duckling" and he knew who had to them...

◇ Bolin ◇

Bolin was always seen as Mako's weak brother. The one that causes problems. The one who is less important. The annoying one. And, to be honest, it deeply hurted. The young man, however, never told his feelings and hid it behind a smile and cheerful personality.

But behind this, he wanted to be important. To be a hero. To not be in his brother's and friends' shadow. But could it be possible ?

He started to stop helping his friends with everything, slowly but surely. And the Kuvira event made it entirely stop. Meeting Baatar felt.. Awesome. He was listened to. Accepted. Seen as important. It was all he wanted. And this feeling made him... Vicious.

▍How changed are their Personnalities ▍

【 Bumi 】

Bumi is a mastermind. A great one.

He is able to play feelings very easily, it's like a simple game. He is extremely manipulative and will make sure to have the last word in everything, being obsessed with being "perfect".

He decided to leave his family behind, he didn't want to be hurted anymore, mostly by his father. Since then, he is blinded by his hatred and has lost his "logic mind".

【 Iroh 】

Iroh is a strategist.

He has everything under his control and nothing escapes him. He has eyes everywhere, so if anything out of order happens, he will know. And he will act surprisingly fast.

Compared to his comrades, he actually doesn't truly have any problems with his family, but he does have a little anger towards his mother. Why ? She had given him the weight of an entire nation since his youth, and truly, that was annoying.

【 Baatar 】

Baatar is a saboteur.

He isn't scared of losing his family, at this point he has totally given up on the idea that they might care for him. He has lost hope and has focused on his "mission".

He let evil thoughts take control over him, as it's the only thing pulling him out of darkness. Between his comrades, he's the one that buried his emotions entirely.

【 Bolin 】

Bolin is a fanatic.

He was so lost, like Baatar, that the small light Bumi offered felt like his life finally had a meaning. He wanted to be important, that much that he left any morals behind him.

In the quatuor, he's the one where his feelings are either extremely important, or not at all. It is unknown if he still has a kind heart behind all these fanatic thoughts.

Their Rise

At first, the group meant to help people just like them. But slowly, their goal changed : Now, everything that they would was for themselves. They got hurted and back stabbed too many times. Why would they try to help if they become invisible again ?

It was now or never, to show that they existed

So they destroyed important places around the nations. Then attacked Republic City in order to make their voices be heard. They had to be heard. And they will.

However, as much powerful they were, they ultimately didn't have a chance against the Avatar and her comrades.

The four of them ended up captured, but their reaction to it wasn't something their close ones were ready for :

Bumi screamed at his siblings at the top of his lungs, not seeming to know that he was crying. He didn't stop until his voice cracked.

Baatar seemed terrorized, shaking badly while tears poured down his cheeks. His family tried to talk to him, but his only answer were incoherent mumbles.

Iroh looked numb. But he was smiling, and didn't answer to anyone, even when his mother and grandfather showed up. He had stopped talking since he was separated from Baatar.

And Bolin seemed to have accepted his defeat. And when his brother came, he just smiled and cried, asking "Was I fun to catch ?".

In this, I wanted to show how a character could snap when pushed to it's limits. Those four had too much on their shoulders and just, totally snapped. For them, all hope was lost until they found eachother. They had found a new family, that they could count on.

But in the end, their minds are twisted and it will take a while for them to open up to people again.

I inspired myself with some songs, that I listened to while drawing and writing. They kinda show the four states of minds during all their lives :
