This was the second piece I drew of my combustion bender girl, Rina, in her redesigned outfit from fall 2020. This piece was made back in October.
The brighter colors for both the sky and grass were meant to evoke a more spirit wilds kind of vibe. We don’t see combustion benders wielding fire in canon, but honestly her hand looked too empty without something there and I liked the contrast more that way. I colored the flame red for the same reason, so it would look nicer against the pink and fuchsia tones of the sky.
The line art took about two hours to complete, and the coloring took about six. Materials used were my default—illustration pen and copic sketch markers. I’ve started to use a pencil with a thinner line, and I think it’s been helping me to get finer facial details drawn more accurately.
It’s hard to tell from this angle, but the bottom of the outfit is a pair of shorts, not a skirt.
My moms review of this piece is “she looks sad”.
