This is my OC, Kyanni. Originally, she was just a roleplay OC and didn’t have much of a background other than specializing in healing and being from the Northern Tribe. For my entry, I’ve decided to expand on her character.

Kyanni was born in the Northern Watertribe. She grew up listening to stories about the Southern Watertribe, where anyone of don’t gender could bend in any way they wanted to, unlike in the North were women were only allowed to learn healing. These stories eventually inspired her to leave the misogynistic Northern Watertribe at the age of 16 and travel the world, avoiding an arranged marriage in the process. Having only healing as water bending experience, she travels around from village to village healing various ailments, eventually wanting to go to the Southern Tribe, though some other things happen that get in the way of her travels. After her best friend its to being the avatar, she decides to return to the northern water tribe to find Sisho a teacher, feeling confident that they wouldn’t turn away the Avatar, even if she was a woman. While spending time in the water tribe, the man she was supposed to marry confronts her, accusing her of making a mockery of him. The Avatar defeats him in a duel, and the group leave the Watertribe for good, deciding to try finding a teacher in the Southern Tribe.

Kyanni makes several friends along the way. In this next section, I will elaborate on them. (This is the Team Avatar of my story!)
Sisho- Avatar Sisho is the first person Kyanni encounters after she first leaves the Northern Water Tribe. She is unaware that Sisho is the Avatar, as Sisho is keeping it a secret because she doesn’t actually want to be the Avatar. The two grow very close, and Sisho decides to Kyanni on her journey. They are best friends. Once it is revealed that Sisho is the Avatar, unlike others in the group, Kyanni is not mad about being lied to, instead offering to teach Sisho how to heal using water bending. (16)
Jaizu- Jaizu is Sisho’s twin brother, younger by just a few minutes. Originally, he is seen as the Avatar. He is a much better air bender than his sister, and earned his arrow at a young age. Its said that if he had been born first, he would of been the Avatar. In his runaway sister’s absence, he takes her place and poses as the avatar until she can be tracked down. He and Kyanni meet by chance when she and Sisho are in a newly settled Ba Sing Se, helping the builders. This is also where Sisho finally its to Kyanni, as well as the world, that she is the true Avatar. Kyanni and Jaizu don’t get along at first with Kyanni wanting to continue their travels as before, but Jaizu wanting his sister to take his training more seriously. They eventually grow to become friends. (16)
Kichi- Kichi is a non-bender, though she is from the Fire Nation. She possesses great powers of fortune telling. She is blind, and spends her time traveling the Earth Kingdom with a circus. This is how she and Kyanni meet. Kyanni is hesitant about seeing the fortune teller, but finally she in convinced, and this is where Kichi and Kyanni meet. Kichi reads Kyanni’s palms, using her fingers to trace the lines. Unbeknownst to Kyanni, Kichi sees Bento’s ing and decides to not tell Kyanni. Instead, she tells Kyanni that she has a very powerful ally, coming from an unsuspecting place. (15)
Bento- Bento is an Earth Bender that Kyanni and company meet in the newly settled Ba Sing Se. He becomes the Avatar’s Earth Bending teacher and s the group. Kyanni and Bento hit it off immediately after meeting. It seems to be clear to everyone but the two of them how well they get along. This budding romance isn’t to last, however, as during the final battle(no spoilers as to what the battle is about) Bento sacrifices his life, and in the process marks himself as the very first Lava Bender. Kyanni misses him greatly and frequently thinks about him. (17)
Haku- Haku is the Water Bender who the group meets in the South Pole. He is happy to teach Sisho waterbending. Kyanni and Haku bond quickly over them both being water benders, and he teachers her water bending combat techniques alongside the Avatar. The two have a close bond that is like siblings. He becomes interested in the Avatar romantically, but is very kind and understanding when she rejects his confession of love. (17)
Lin- Lin is a talented Fire Bender, and is heir to the throne of the Fire Nation, being the Fire Lord’s only child. She leaves her home in search of the Avatar, vowing that she will be the one to teach the Avatar firebending. She catches up with the group shortly after the group leaves Ba Sing Se, and is disappointed that Sisho isn’t ready for Fire Bending yet. Kyanni and Lin don’t often see eye to eye, as Lin doesn’t see a point in using waterbending to heal. She often says “just don’t get hit.”. Their relationship is strained until towards them end, when Lin takes a bad hit and Kyanni is there to heal her. After that, the two get along much better. (16)
