Even though I am a cosplayer I do not have a Kuvira cosplay that I can use for this challenge but hopefully in time I will. For this challenge I’ve decided to do the writing category which is to write a new villain origin story for Kuvira. I wanted to combine Zelda Williams the voice actress of Kuvira with the character itself when creating this backstory. To be honest I prefer her canon story better but eh whatever I tried.

:warning: Warning the following is very very Gay please proceed with caution :warning:

As a child Kuvira grew up in a isolated household in Republic City. The walls surrounding their property were intimidatingly high. At a young age she wasn’t a fan favorite from her peers. She often found herself being the target of which many negative rumors surfaced so because of this Kuvira tried to keep to herself within the walls of her home. Away from the drama and away from the other kids on the streets. Her father was a respectable man someone whom many people ired and loved. Both hardworking and kind he was a great father to her and her mother was too or so it had seemed to the general public. Kuvira was seen as a threat to her mother when she was born. An inconvenience. Her mother gave birth to Kuvira at a very young age which put a stop to the plans for the future she originally once had. She would take this out on Kuvira by oftenly lashing out at her and treating her like the mistake she saw her to be. Noticing Kuvira had taken refuge from the community in their home she decided to make her busy. Trying her best to get Kuvira out of the house as much as possible she enrolled her daughter into many courses and had her volunteer as an assistant for the Republic City fleet which kept her busy and out of the house most of the time. Keeping the gates of the property locked until nightfall her daughter was forced out of the house despite her young age.

Even though Kuvira and her mother didn’t have a healthy relationship, her father was the best father he could be. As busy as he was he tried to spend as much time as he could with his daughter and often invited her on business trips showing her the villages and cities scattered throughout the Earth Kingdom and Ba Sing Se. Leaving Zaofu for last, Kuvira was mesmerized by the city. Everyone seemed to be so connected and kind unlike her home back in Republic City. She wished to stay there but unfortunately like each business trip they had to return home.

Seeing her husband having a close relationship with their daughter made things worse. She was jealous of the relationship they had together. It was impossible to get rid of Kuvira. Not only had Kuvira taken away their wanted future but she had taken away all the time and attention from her father.

Seeing the mistreatment her mother put upon his daughter, Kuvira’s father took a stand to leave Republic City along with his wife and move to Zaofu to start a new life. The night before he was going to sign his will over to his daughter and about 3 days before Kuvira and her father were supposed to set off on their journey to Zaofu, Kuvira’s father was found dead in his home office. Rumors started to circulate that Kuvira had committed the crime and killed her own father, staging it to look like an accident but Kuvira knew that it was her mother’s doing. With her father gone and out of the way the will was still written to her and the custody of their daughter was also left in her custody. With mistreatment and more emotional abuse bound to come, rather than sticking around to wait for it Kuvira traveled to Zaofu herself to live the life her father had intended for her.

When she reached Zaofu, Suyin took Kuvira under her wing. Adjusting was difficult but she found peace and was happy living amongst the medal benders in Zaofu. Slowly but surely she became really connected with the family. Kuvira wasn’t so sure that the same connection she had for them was mutual. She was adopted in after all.

Putting her mother in the back of her mind and trying to leave Republic City and everything that happened there in the past proved to be a difficult task but was made easier with the from Suyin and her family. Kuvira trained as a medal bender, mastering it pretty quickly and easily moved up ranks in her division as a soldier. On her very limited free time from being on her shift she took up different hobbies such as dance mostly sparring and combat training. Leveling up in ranks her leisure time decreased as she got more and more involved with her work. She had built a successful life their as a military leader working for Su but she never really felt like she was treated the same as Su’s biological children. Trying to keep both her body and mind busy as best she could helped keep her out of her head. Memories from her past trauma often made her difficult to be around so she found herself under the acupuncture needles quite often.

Often feeling like the black sheep in the household she kept herself occupied within the army making many allies and devoted irers along the way. While leading many different projects and escorting people in and out of the city for negotiations with other nations she got to see how broken the Earth Kingdom really was. On a trip to Kyoshi island Kuvira met an Earth bender named Lana but she wasn’t really good at bending she could barely bend a small rock. No matter how much practice her beng never improved. So instead of continuing the   as an Earth bender she hid her Earth bending abilities from everyone on the island including her parents and claimed to be a non bender. She figured it would be easier to keep it a secret than to reveal it and disappoint her family. Practicing only as a Kyoshi warrior she met Kuvira the first time she arrived at the island. The two really hit it off and Kuvira found herself not only traveling to Kyoshi island for business reasons. She made it her obligation to visit Lana at Kyoshi island as much as possible. Lana kept her secret from Kuvira until she accidentally revealed it one day. Some people on the island didn’t agree with the negotiations between the village and Zaofu, therefor often meeting the soldiers that came with distaste and hatred. One day when Kuvira arrived at Kyoshi island to discuss trading negotiations a villager bended a bolder at Kuvira’s head. Before Lana could even think she stepped in and bended the bolder back at the man. Her aim was off and the bolder hit an elderly woman that stood behind the man killing her instantly. The woman she had killed was once a leader of the Kyoshi warriors, a respected woman and friend of Avatar Aang. Suki. After Sokka had died Suki moved back to Kyoshi island feeling a sense of belonging there where she had grown up. She helped advise and teach the new warriors. Shocking everyone in the village including Kuvira Lana fled the island leaving everyone and everything behind.

Broken hearted Kuvira swept the nations looking for Lana but rumor had it she had entered into the spirit world through the spirit portal in the South Pole. She never got to tell Lana how she felt and she didn’t care for the crimes Lana committed against the Earth Kingdom. Even if that made her a criminal herself she would do anything to protect her. Taking the one lead that might bring her and Lana together again Kuvira went into the portal herself and eventually found her in the fog of lost souls. Rushing into the fog to save her she got trapped. The few soldiers that went with Kuvira into the spirit world turned and left her. Leaving her to her own insanity for all eternity. Telling everyone that Kuvira had died from a landslide of ice near the portal.

Baatar Jr. the son of Suyin Beifong and Baatar was devastated at the news but believed that Kuvira’s death had been fabricated. Someone as strong and determined as Kuvira couldn’t possibly have been killed by an avalanche. Besides they never did find the body. No evidence to back up their claim. He took it upon himself to interrogate all the soldiers that went with her to the South Pole. Him and with Aiwei the truth seer conducted the interrogations. Discovering the truth Baatar Jr. left to go save her from the fog. Since new air benders were popping up all over the world he recruited two of them to go with him to disperse the fog. Baatar didn’t just save Kuvira that day but as many people as he could that found themselves in the fog of lost souls which included Lana.

He didn’t know why Kuvira had left to go to the spirit world and he certainly didn’t know her connection to Lana. He knew she was searching for something/someone but he didn’t know what that was. Putting Lana under arrest for her crimes against the Earth Kingdom, and to Baatar’s surprise, Kuvira retaliated but Baatar insisted that if she was caught aiding and abetting a fugitive she would meet the same fate back home and possibly a worse fate considering she was a high ranking officer. Which was something that Baatar didn’t want for her.

Zaofu transferred Lana to Ba Sing Se to live out her life in a cell. Outraged by the betrayal of her own city and putting the one she loved behind bars Kuvira promised herself that the Earth Kingdom would pay. How could Suyin a criminal herself of Republic City turn in Lana. When she went to talk to Suyin about it she told Kuvira “the Earth Kingdom is broken enough. If we are caught hiding criminals of other cities and towns within our walls it would further separate us. Please Kuvira, do not fight this. There has to be some other way you can get your friend out.”

Even though Suyin was right, the Earth Kingdom was broken she couldn’t understand the hypocrisy. “Aren’t you a fugitive of Republic City? Couldn’t you sympathize with the situation?” Suyin wasn’t going to back down from this. Even though she knew Lana meant a lot to Kuvira she had to put Zaofu first. “Republic City even though it is Earth Kingdom territory is no longer a part of the Earth Kingdom. So my crimes within the Earth Kingdom are non existent Kuvira. I’m sorry.” The conversation between the two turned into a really bad argument but Suyin didn’t budge. Storming off in defeat, Kuvira decided that she wanted to leave Zaofu. When she was packing her bags Baatar jr. stopped her and convinced her to stay. Baatar had always loved Kuvira and he wasn’t prepared to loose her. He always looked up to her growing up and had a deep iration for the medal bender, but little did he know Kuvira’s “friend” Lana was more than just a friend.

He promised Kuvira that he would help get Lana out of Ba Sing Se but she needed to stay in Zaofu in order for that to happen. The two planned it all out spending many nights mapping it out together, but once they broke her out what then? They wouldn’t be welcome back at Zaofu or any of the other cities and villages within the Earth Kingdom. Kuvira would have to unite the entirety of the Earth kingdom under a new name. Under a new ruler.

When the opportunity arose to temporarily watch over Ba Sing Se when the queen had been murdered by Zaheer she took it. It was the perfect opportunity to get Lana out of prison by pardoning her. It was just what she needed. When Kuvira got to Ba Sing Se Lana was no where to be found. Consulting with the record keeper she found that Lana had been moved to Republic City Prison. Lana still had no control over her bending so she was taken there to be put in a more suitable cell away from other prisoners.

Even though Kuvira had promised to turn the throne back over to the prince and step down she decided that with Baatar and an army at her disposal she had an opportunity to change things the way she wanted. To conquer the entire Earth Kingdom territory, unite it, and mold it into a new rule. An empire for herself and for Lana.

Baatar jr. was loyal to her. He would do anything for her and of course Kuvira knew that because she took advantage of it. Giving Baatar the false impression that she loved him back helped keep him by her side and choose her over his family. Her heart still belonged to Lana who didn’t even know she had it. Kuvira still never got to tell her.

It is believed that the fog from the fog of lost souls in the spirit world still lingers in Kuvira’s brain after spending a large amount of time trapped in it.

If you have reached this point….Thank you for reading! I’m sure there are canonical errors that wouldn’t fit that are in there but as you can tell I worked really hard on this so I hope you liked it. :green_heart:
