A Soldier’s Best Friend is a Ferret

I was staring at portraits people had taken of themselves with their pets, and I realized that my OC Xiao Sun is exactly the kind of person who would have themselves posed with their pet in the most ridiculous way possible. This was the result.

Xiao’s Fire Ferret, Hei Mei, is indeed meant to have some different attributes than Pabu does. Hei Mei’s stripes are much more pale, and his eye color being different is supposed to make them easier to tell apart. His eyes turned out a little bigger than I meant for them to—most likely because I was using cats for the body reference instead of ferrets or red pandas. I can fix it next time. I don’t draw a lot of animals so it was good practice.

The line art took about two and a half hours, and the coloring about six. Materials used were copic sketch markers and illustration pen.
