Hello, friends! Today I have a different post for today; MM ending theory! Please enjoy.

Pale moonlight broke through the linen curtains, spilling onto the oak floor of her bedroom. Just like a child when the presence of a monster lingers under the bed, the raven was hidden underneath her blanket. Heavy eyes remained open, cheeks stained with the residue of tears, pillowcase dampened by them. As the dawn broke, the idea of what was to come drew nearer and nearer like that of the darkest and coldest of shadows. The world was cruel, she questioned whether or not it could ever be beautiful again, the feeling of joy so distant it was barely a memory. She felt her frail heart break more with each ing moment, wishing it would end; how much more could she take?

Floorboards creaked as she rose, looking out into the night through the small gap in her curtains. Taking a few steps closer, she drew them open, taking in the sky and its blanket of stars. Eyes fell upon the dagger of which sparkled underneath the low light, free of the blood that would later coat it. Icy orbs stung, lip quivering with the overwhelming guilt that took over her, but it was the right decision for everyone, for humanity. The blood test of war was becoming unbearable, often questioning who was right. . . Who was she to decide who lived and who died? Who was spared and who could call yet another cry of victory.

Reluctantly, she dressed herself for the occasion, getting into the uniform that became the burden of her being, the symbol of her taken innocence. Body covered in scars and bruises, sometimes forgetting what her skin looked like before. The clock ticked, becoming too loud to bear, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her ears, "get it together, Mikasa!" She hissed between her clenched teeth, hands falling there after. The sun cut through the trees, a reminder that her mission had begun. Swiping the dagger off her nightstand, she concealed of it shortly after as she left the person she once was behind in her bedroom door.

Business carried on as usual, the buzz of rising soldiers and next steps filtered into her ears, it just becoming background noise as she searched for her companion. Squeeing past comrades until she spotted him, approaching him with a woeful look. "Armin. . . " voice was low and weak, the male placing a gentle yet firm hand on her shoulder.

"I know. . . " The blonde looked down, a few silent tears rolling from his cheeks, yet the unspoken task carried on. "It's for the greater good, no amount of consoling him will work. . . It's the only way we—"

"Can win, I know." Mikasa interrupted, clinging onto the male, body trembling. "I just don't know if–" she hiccuped, breathing ragged and uneven, "if I can do it."

"You're the strongest person I know, I have the upmost faith you will carry through." With one final embrace, the two departed, preparing for the mission; kill Eren Jaeger. It was inevitable, the man had become the thing he had sworn against, abandoned all he knew, including himself. A shell of a man, a very distant stranger to all he knew and would know, a mass murderer and monster amongst other things. So focused on revenge, he became blind to the destruction he caused, every single bit of light leaving him, heart nearly as cold as his eyes. No amount of excuses could further shield those painful truths, the truths both her and her friend denied until now.

The team loaded onto an aircraft, consisting of Levi, Jean, Connie, Armin and of course their weapon, Mikasa. There were a few more for backup, but the point and objective remained the same; find Eren and kill him. Pulling out the dagger, the raven observed it, how it glistened in the low light of the ship, trying to numb herself of the pain that was to come. They were all strangers with memories, unable to connect in the ways of which they used to. As she looked upon the dagger, she recounted the time she first killed, the memory that taught her how cruel the world truly was. It was all for blood wasn't it? For greed. As she looked into that young boy's eyes that evening, the same spark of merciless anger that still lingered behind those emotionless and hateful orbs to this day. The blood still stained her fingertips, no matter how much he tried to wash it away, in this case, push it away, the memory still remained. Now, it was time to bring it full circle.

"It's time, Mikasa." Levi stated in the same brash tone he always did, nodding in reply as she went to the door, feeling the early morning wind caress her face. Like a bird taking flight, she jumped from the aircraft, using her gear to transport herself to him, the air seemingly getting thicker as she approached his presumed location. Tattered crimson scarf collected the tears of which fell once more, the final piece of herself breaking and diminishing.

Landing gracefully, gunmetal eyes scanned the eerie area of which surrounded her, the hair on her back and arms prickling as she searched for her prey. Thin fingers hovered over the pocket that held her simple weapon, preparing for the attack, senses seemingly heightened.

"Long time no see. . ." A low voice remarked, the raven turning to face it, knowing almost immediately what was to come. For a few slow moments, the two looked at one another, the silence and tension that was felt unbearable. "I see you've come to pay me a visit."

"Eren. . ." The name felt like poison as it trickled from her lips, leaving a sour taste in her mouth, brows furrowed. He was a stranger, no longer the boy of which she had loved, ignorant to the destruction he had caused; it angered her. "So I have. . ." Cautiously she approached, now only not even a foot away from him. "Do you know what you've don—"

"I'm righting a wrong." He coldly interrupted, looking right through her. Mikasa tensed, core burning with anger and sadness. The same look took over her counterpart, so close yet so distant. He looked down at her hand that hovered over her belt, emerald eyes meeting her silver, "they sent you, didn't they?"

". . . They did." What happened next was a flurry of movement; Eren tackling her, her kicking him back. "Get off me!" She cried, swinging a fist that connected to his jaw, seeing a tooth or two fall, him collapsing to the ground in pain. She rose, looking down at her fists. . . Was she a monster too? She looked down at the groaning Eren, wanting so badly to help him, but resisted. "You know what has to be done."

He sat up, wiping away the blood from his busted lip, "I guess so. . . Please, sit next to me. . ." For a split second he was back, the scared, ionate boy. She obliged, kneeling beside him, placing her hand on top of his. "To think it has come to this. . ." Mikasa nodded in reply, removing her beloved scarf from her neck, wrapping it around him one final time, him looking at her in bewilderment. "Why have you stayed by my side all these years?"

"Because. . . You saved me, now it's time I repay you." Unleashing the lethal dagger, hand trembling as it was held. Eren, whom had come to with his death many moments prior, perhaps even years prior, lowered his head. Mikasa positioned herself, embracing him tightly, turning the knife to face his back. With a shaky breath, she buried her face into his neck, "goodbye. . . You did well." She plunged the dagger through the flesh of his back, it sinking in seamlessly. The warmth of his blood coated her fingertips, stabbing two more times, feeling the life drain from his body. She gently laid him down, placing a kiss on his forehead, "goodbye, Eren."
