*Moonbin pov*
Moonbin was dead on his feet. Almost from the moment they had gotten back to base, he’d stayed by their leader’s side, setting his arm, stitching up his cuts, and checking his vitals almost constantly. He’d slept little and eaten less, but that didn’t matter. JinJin needed him.
He was busy switching out the medicinal bags on JinJin’s IV line when he heard a soft, almost imperceptible knock at the door. Moonbin called back, “It’s open”, assuming it was Eunwoo or MJ come to sit with JinJin again.
No one wanted him to be alone. The door opened while Moonbin flushed and reopened the line that led into JinJin’s forearm. He turned around to see Rocky standing on the threshold of the room, face pale, leaning on MJ for .
*Rocky pov*
As soon as he opened the door, Rocky froze. His eyes flitted from the stark white painted walls to the dimmed lighting to the green line on the monitor on the far wall, moving steadily and beeping quietly.
He took a deep breath to steady himself, before letting his eyes follow the line leading from the monitor to the large hospital bed placed against the wall on the other side of the room.
His brother lay in that bed under a white sheet, pale and still. Rocky moved slowly and unsteadily closer to the foot of the bed, MJ close behind him in case he collapsed again.
A cannula ran from a tank on the wall to fit into JinJin’s nose, and butterfly stitches covered the cuts on his arms and face. An IV line fed into one arm, the other lay at an awkward angle encased in a green cast. He looked so small laying in that huge hospital bed...
Moonbin moved quietly out from the other side of the bed and came towards them. “Rocky,” he said gently. Rocky tore his gaze away from JinJin to face his hyung. Moonbin looked down at the tearstained, puffy face of the younger boy.
“I’m happy you’ve come,” he said, and enveloped Rocky in a hug. Rocky leaned onto Moonbin’s shoulder, and fought the urge to cry yet again.
Moonbin moved back first, and Rocky turned to study his brother’s figure. “A green cast,” he whispered, and looked back at his hyungs. A small smile crossed his face, the first in days. Moonbin smiled back, “Of course it’s green. JinJin would kill me if I picked anything other than his favorite color.”
MJ softly smiled too, then turned to grab the chair Eunwoo had been using earlier and set it by JinJin’s head near the other end of the bed. Rocky, staring at his brother’s unnaturally pale face, heard Moonbin and MJ moving back to a corner to whisper about something, but he couldn’t care less what it was.
He moved away from the foot of the bed and fell into the chair. Rocky leaned forward to take JinJin’s cold hand. He held it in both of his.
“JinJin...” he whispered. “I’m so sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I’m sorry you got hurt. I’m sorry I can’t function without you, but none of us can.” A tear finally slipped down his cheek and landed on the clean white sheets.
“I miss you.”
“Please.”
“Please come back to us.”
*Moonbin pov*
Moonbin felt relieved, to say the absolute least. Rocky finally found the strength to come see his brother, and JinJin was finally in a shape to be seen by Rocky. The last few days had been rough. Speaking of....
He nudged MJ, who’d been watching the reunion just as fondly, if not more so, than Moonbin. The two moved back to the corner near the door, farthest from the bed.
“He’s finally out of danger,” he said to MJ, who looked like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders. “There’s no concussion or other brain trauma, so he should wake up any time now.”
“Good,” MJ replied. “I’ll have to get back to work soon, there’s the food order and the new parts for the phasers Eunwoo is building and Rocky was throwing knives again so we need something to patch the doorfr-“
“Hyung,” Moonbin said, interrupting MJ’s nervous ranting, “I know.” MJ shot him a sheepish smile, then said, “You need to rest, you’ve been in here for days. I’ll watch the kid.”
Moonbin immediately opened his mouth to refuse, but a wave of exhaustion swept over him at his hyung’s words, and he weakly nodded.
MJ affectionately shoved him towards the door, and Moonbin shoved him back before opening the door. He looked back to see MJ sitting in the far corner of the room, watching Rocky, who had fallen asleep with his head on the bed, still holding JinJin’s hand.
“Aish, these kids,” he thought blearily before stepping out into the hallway and quietly closing the door behind him. He made a beeline for the living quarters he shared with Eunwoo, nearly running into several doorframes along the way.
He stopped in the kitchen to grab another bag of Cheezits, promising himself he’d work out later. He finally made it to his dorm, but no sooner had Moonbin opened the door and noticed Eunwoo sleeping on one of the two beds than he tripped over air and fell on the ground.
Crap, he thought to himself, as he lay on the floor. Moonbin tried to push himself up into a sitting position but hissed in pain; there were scrapes on the palms of both of his hands. Cursing the rough stone floor of the warehouse they called home, he rolled over and tried again, only to hear Eunwoo stirring.
Moonbin froze. “Binie?” Eunwoo whispered.
“I’m here, hyung. Everything’s fine, go back to sleep.” Guilt flooded Moonbin’s mind for waking Eunwoo up; he needed the sleep. He’d been staying up late trying to track down footage of that night, but oddly, all the cameras in the area had stopped working a few minutes before the attack.
Moonbin pushed the peculiarity out of his mind and once again attempted to get up from the floor on his own.
Eunwoo, however, had evidently heard the note of pain in Moonbin’s voice and gotten out of bed to check on him. Through the dim light of their dorm, Moonbin saw Eunwoo’s eyes widen and he padded over barefooted to check on his dongsaeng.
He knelt down by Moonbin to check on his hands, and Moonbin suddenly couldn’t help but notice Eunwoo’s messy bed head. And how soft his hands were as he touched Moonbin’s. And how the curve of his cheek shone softly in the dim lights of their room. A slight blush painted Moonbin’s cheeks as he realized how strange he was acting.
C’mon, he mentally smacked himself. This is your teammate, your friend, the heck are you doing?
Moonbin continued to silently scold himself until a hand being waved in front of his unfocused eyes snapped him back to reality. “Moonbin?” Eunwoo asked. “Is everything okay?”
“Y-Yea, hyung,” he stammered. “I’ll be okay, the scrapes really are not bad,” and pushed himself to his feet. He needed sleep. That was it. Sleep could clear his head.
Despite Eunwoo’s skeptical look, Moonbin staggered over to his bed and collapsed into it, Eunwoo following his lead more gracefully a minute later.
The last thing Binie saw as his eyes drifted closed was the comforting shadow on the wall of his hyung sitting up in bed watching him. The last thing he felt, however, was dread for what he knew would come next...
