Random opinions on characters, I was originally going to make a least-favourite blog with like 40 characters but then I realised that would be too hard for me so.

These rants aren't entirely interesting opinions, but I thought they were worth putting up here.

Also, spoiler alert.

Also, beware some of these are from my wall so you may have read some of these. Featuring the characters: Karma, Takebayashi, Okajima, Isogai, Kanzaki, Hiromi and Shiro.

Kotaro Takebayashi

Takebayashi, the absolute badass of Class 3-E. Honestly, the decision to go to 3-A was understandable, the way he came back was shocking, I loved every single moment of it. I’m honestly really disappointed that they didn’t add that moment in the anime.

Other than that particular moment, he was nothing to be completely honest. Luckily he got that redemption in the manga which was really cool.

He's not as high up compared to the other characters I have on the list, due to me not being able to relate to him as much as other characters and a personality I don't like too much.

I would like to take my time and point out something kinda funny I noticed in the bo-tashi match, due to the fact I might as well state it. He criticizes Kevin (also kind of directed to Gakushuu for not giving more instructions) for not being able to direct himself and that he has to have instructions to get results. and guess who's the only other person working with Takebayashi? Terasaka. A character who is not able to direct himself and that he has to have instructions to get results.

OKAY OKAY EDIT: As I was about to post this blog I found the chapter for Takebayashi, animated into an extra episode! I found this now?? lmao it was probably released awhile ago https://youtu.be/P5vV8aXxWO0 I'm freaking out right now

Karma Akabane: Fangirl Magnet

Okay for starters, I do think Karma doesn't need the drastic development, unlike Terasaka and Nagisa. Although I definitely do think there are a lot of holes to patch up in the narrative towards the end of the series/Karma's arc. Even despite Karma's amount of screentime, I still don't think he needs a drastic amount of development, despite the holes in his development that I am going to point out

Psychologically, Karma's delinquency most likely comes from his parents' absence in his life. Korosensei's place in his life most likely a parental figure or even a therapist. Rehabilitation is a very long process, one that I don't think Korosensei could completely solve in a single year. Yes, Korosensei does help, but he doesn't flip Karma's initial mentality completely. It also doesn't help that Karma is extremely egotistical, and would probably not listen/take Korosensei's advice until later on.

Although I'm going to point out some things I genuinely dislike Karma's development:

Crossdressing Nagisa: Like, we never see Karma ever reflect on this? We see Rio reflect on it but not Karma. And Karma did stop crossdressing Nagisa, so something must've happened?

Space Episodes: Okay, here they failed at showing the development between Nagisa and Karma's friendship becoming healthier. It seemed like more like a filler episode than an actual episode where the characters reflect on their past and future. I do think this specific episode was to show how far Karma and Nagisa have gone, but the episode just came out bland: I didn’t like it.

I also think the amount that Karma's actions through his point of view, are way too justified at some stages, the biggest example being the justification for Nagisa's cross-dressing.

However, here I’m going to put why I simply like him, despite all the nitpicking I’ve just done on his character. I do think he is a good character, he has his relevance and gimmicks to keep the story going and has a different perspective for a better understanding of the narrative. His personality differs from other characters, and despite it being a very stereotypical “sadistic classmate” it definitely works into the world of Assassination Classroom, where the motive in the very beginning is to kill, and shifts as the characters develop and the story goes along.

long time, due to his stubbornness. Yes, I do agree other characters could’ve gotten more spotlight than him but I don’t think it’s a reason for me to dislike him.

Also like, if you hate Karma solely for the purpose he is “too overrated” and the fact that the fandom saturates him, sure that can ruin your perspective on the character (which happens to me in every fandom to be completely frank) but I don’t think that's a valid reason to completely hate a character.

I promise, despite this long rant on Karma, he is still one of my favorites, not sure if that's embedded into my brain due the show’s pacing, but as a major character he has quite a bit to offer.

Taiga Okajima

Okajima, the class pervert of the classroom. To be completely honest, the comedic value he puts into the series isn't that all bad. The pacing and the general joke can give someone a laugh, but other than this there really isn’t that much to talk about him. It’s childish humor, sure but the series is a shounen so it's completely understandable to have jokes like these targeted to kids and young teens.

I guess when it comes down to like this character, it comes down to if you like the “perverted classmate” archetype. I personally, don’t mind it, but like with a lot of the minor characters, he is pretty much-wasted potential for actual development and feels like a one-dimensional character at best.

Yuma Isogai

Let me start off with: I think Isogai is a bland character. Yes, this is why he is so far down on my list.

Don’t get me wrong, Isogai makes the mood fun and you could probably infer he pulls an act to make everyone happy. But I think he lacks an actual arc for me to follow, like the point of Korosensei’s part in the narrative is to cater to a student’s individual needs and set them up for adulthood. As a character who probably gets around the same screentime as Itona, Okuda, and Terasaka I feel like there’s no exact reason to root for him to achieve, and if you don’t infer anything he comes off as “too perfect” and implies a flawless personality which isn’t necessarily good for a character.

Even Okuda has a flaw that we can root for her to improve on, it strikes me over the fact that there aren’t people that dislike Isogai. I’m neutral on his character. When it comes to analysis work and rewatching the series, there’s nothing that much to talk about or think of him. But in the moment, it’s pretty safe to say he came off a likable person to almost the entire audience in the first viewing of the series.

Okay, maybe his biggest flaw is that he is too much of a hard worker, as shown when he got sick, which I guess I could say that’s acceptable for a character flaw. However it’s quickly resolved, and Isogai isn’t shown reflecting on this.

Sorry, he’s perfect, the embodiment of a gentleman. But is a perfect person necessarily interesting? In my eyes, no.

However, is he likable? Yes. He has an adorable and cute physique, plus he has traits of an ideal person. However, even though I do see why people like Isogai, this is not what I usually like in a character.

I would also like to add here I find amusement in the fact that Isogai curses a lot. Although this one fact isn’t demonstrated often enough and isn’t enough for me to change my opinion on him.

Yukiko Kanzaki

Kanzaki is a character I’ve switched to liking and disliking plenty of times. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the gamer girl archetype, being a PC Gamer (with quite a bit of console knowledge) myself.

The areas I find lacking is actually showing her interest in video games. There’s not a single memorable moment that I specifically (other than that one photo shown that Korosensei took) about her being ionate or referencing video games. It’s almost forgettable that she is a gamer, and I personally find it hard to like her because it feels like she’s missing the biggest part of her character.

I do see where the narrative was going with Kanzaki’s character, your “girl who can do both” trope, rather than your stereotypical “gamer chick” trope, although I’d much rather the “gamer chick trope” because it would actually demonstrate how she values gaming and likes it.

This goes into way preference territory, but I don’t like the perception of a nice, elegant girl who plays video games. Due to my own experience, I feel like boisterous and loud would’ve worked for her character (thus, she’d seem like she would fit in 3-E better).

But with further ado, I give props for that badass moment in the civil war arc in chapter one-hundred and forty-four, it was unexpected and short but I loved that moment particularly.

So in the end, I find Kanzaki a bland character (in the narrative) due to the lack of focus on her interests, even Fuwa has more focus on her interests and she gets less screen time.

Hiromi

As for narrative and enjoyment purposes, I don't think it's right to outright hate characters that aren't morally good, instead of good character writing and general enjoyment.

However, with this character, I have no satisfaction in liking her arc in general, but it’s not solely for the purpose of their bad morality and role in the story.

There are two huge problems I see with this character:

- Lack of perspective: I feel like, to get more insight with Hiromi's character we needed more insight.

Although it's inherently easy to infer Hiromi forces Nagisa to be feminine because of her own experience with being devoid of being feminine as a girl, we lack the emotional backup to understand her character more.

The second major problem I have with her character arc is how it concluded.

With Hiromi, she seemed delusional when we first saw her. The ending was quick and I felt like it was too unrealistic and unreasonable. All of a sudden everything was happy and Nagisa's family were back to together. Like wouldn't Hiromi be conflicted on having the change how she treats Nagisa completely? Wouldn't Nagisa be conflicted to accept his mum who has been abusing him for years? I guess the ending was too sappy for me.

Although, I do definitely think she belongs in the narrative in Assassination Classroom, don’t get me wrong. In fact, her character I think was a good decision for Nagisa’s arc, to make it have a ton more sense.

Shiro

Shiro's character is missing a lot of details, as a constantly recurring villain, I feel like his backstory could've been more in depth. Like great, he abused his wife, injured his eye, swore to take revenge on Korosensei thinking he killed his wife, you know. The same problems apply with Hiromi in his narrative in my opinion. Lack of perspective and awful conclusion

Here’s a list of things that could’ve added more perspective to his character.

- But why did he have this mentality?

- What is the main motive of his scientific discovery of tentacles?

- How does he feel about Itona?

- Does he have feelings at all?

- Was anyone at his side in the past when he was working?

- Other than Aguri, how the rest of the workers feel about him?

- Was he influenced by anything when he was younger?

No, I'm not talking about his fight with Korosensei and him coming back alive, that's all good. The problem I have his during the aftermath the only bad thing that happens to him is that the government turns down his scientific discovery.

Like, there is no resolve to the people he abused and manipulated?

Also Kayano, someone who was manipulated and performed human experimentation on by Shiro, wishes the best for him in the future in the last couple chapters/episode. Come on, rooting for your ab isn't a good thing to wrap up, especially if he isn’t demonstrated to become a better person, I feel like that’s something we shouldn’t have to infer.

Not going to lie though, his character design is pretty cool if you ask me.

And I see you made it to the end! I hope you enjoyed suffering reading through this lol.

Tbh, if you disagree with me on Isogai or Kanzaki I won't argue, I'm usually conflicted on wherever I like them or not anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
