She typically goes by Kayla. Her art uses bold lineart and vivid colors making each piece pop. Not only does their art style stand out, but the character designs are also unique and well thought out. We are very excited to name them our Artist of The Week!

✧*̥˚     How do I become an AOTW?     *̥˚✧

First, make an audition post with 7-20 pieces of yourart with the tag #aotwaudition

It is recommended that you update your audition post as time goes on (ex:every 2 months)!

If you have auditioned before, and you did not get AOTW, don’t worry, yourentry is still valid!

✧*̥˚    How did you first get      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚    into creating art?      *̥˚✧

I don't know what the trigger to start was. I suppose every kid liked to draw at some point. But I just didn't stop. My parents recognized my interest and assign me to contests since kindergarten.

More specifically there was an instance in middle school where i watched behind the scenes of disney frozen. I'm in such awe that i decided I want to be in the animation industry. I want to be part of films like that. And in order to get there i have to be serious in art. I'm happy with my decision because while learning and practicing to get into an art career and art faculty in university i get to enjoy the process more than i'd expect.

✧*̥˚     inspiration come from?      *̥˚✧

The cartoon show "Ninjago" had inspired me a lot when i was younger. Now I look up to a lot of instagram artists. Especially krooked.glasses, imzukich, and valentinaremenar. My art teacher from primary school also inspired me a lot. His name was Mr. Eka. You're an MVP Mr. Eka!!

Not only Mr. Eka, I have a lot of art teachers from my high school art course that I ire too. Shout out to all of them especially Mr. Cowboy 🤠 who still guides me till this day for the drawing test to enter Uni.

✧*̥˚     How would you describe      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚     your art style?      *̥˚✧

I'd describe it as if western cartoon visits japan? I'm persistent about making my style mimic the western-ish style and stay away from anime. But some people still regard it as anime dang it🙃 It sucks because i want to have more association with what i grew up with and what inspire me more. Which, to put into perspective, cartoon network and disney channel were my afterschool buddy meanwhile I only watched very few anime recently that people seem to really hype up.

✧*̥˚     What does art mean to you?      *̥˚✧

Art to me means opportunity and a media to communicate and spread good messages. BUT i'm not there yet, I need to improve a lot and keep improving constantly as a person. But i wish to make everyone especially myself a better person through my artwork in the future.

✧*̥˚     What art mediums do      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚     you prefer to work in?      *̥˚✧

I prefer to work to digitally. I use Medibang Paint Pro on desktop (cuz its free ohohoho) and wacom intuos pen and touch that's connected to a potato laptop. I find many advantages in digital BUT traditional is important!! Especially for your speed, stiffness, confidence in lines, minimizing mistakes, and instinct of compositing things. For traditional i use a lot of pencil from H to 6B. I used to use copics but most of them are dried out. Watercolor is not my calling, but colored pencils are very fun. Lastly for draft scribbles i use any pen in my hand. I practice traditional for the uni test i kept mentioning. Digital is for my own indulgement and for later on for after my freshmen year. If i ended up enrolling in that uni that is.

✧*̥˚     What is your favorite      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚     piece and why?      *̥˚✧

This has to be my favorite piece. Not because of the experimental techniques i rarely used and the overall result only, but it has an interesting story behind it that's memorable for me. The freshmen from my dream uni held a contest with kaliope theme and i ed. I spend the like 1 day 1 night on this, i almost didn't get any sleep and i it was ramadhan. So when my family eat sahoor i was still busy like finishing touches. And that day I had to go to some kind of ramadhan camp basically. So i was so sleepy in that camp and fell asleep a lot HEHEHE. I posted my entry right after the camp opening ceremony. It's a whole experience. To add to that, i ended up winning the contest which is like, ecstatic is an understatement. It gives me a boost of motivation to enroll in that Uni.

✧*̥˚     art goals/aims?      *̥˚✧

I want to make a living with art. I want to take it professionally. And i want to lead an ambitious project. But besides that, i want to deliver stories while interacting more with audience in my social media platform. Make artworks that people enjoy and share.

✧*̥˚     Original Characters?      *̥˚✧

these are 3 of my main OCs. From left to right : Sino, Adam, and Chen. They are junior of The Riot Ragger criminal gang. Adam has been fighting internal moral conflict and decided that he wanted to leave but it's not possible. Their relationship is messy, they're best friends at times and fight the minute after.

Aldara (the girl) comes from a wealthy family, the kind that is very vulnerable for riot ragger attacks, and Toja was an orphan kid, very vulnerable for riot ragger recruitments. Toja was hired as a peer companion from a really young age while being trained to be her personal bodyguard as they grew up together. Aldara has a big hatred for any ragger regardless because a very close family member of hers was a victim. But Toja has pity and soft side for the barely preteen like Adam, Chen, and Sino. They got involved in trying to stop the spread and expansion of the gang.

I only mentioned 5 characters but honeslty there are way more. Sanca, the designated royalty from neighboring country, Iren who fled from Sanca's country to Aldara's. Zack who's the son of Riot Ragger Ambassador in the city of Mauboros. Tamara, the geographer who's desperately needed in Al's team but bargaining with her seems almost impossible. Malva, an overly curious classmate who keeps intervening Adam's business. And they each have their own personal struggles that they help each other with! Ranging from school grades to getting over the death of their loved ones.

✧*̥˚     How do you deal with art      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚     block? Any tips?      *̥˚✧

Stop drawing at all. Sleep, take a rest, watch something, read something, don't force yourself because your artwork will end up unsatisfying anyways. You're gonna come back fresh after an idea struck, hopefully.

✧*̥˚     you would like to share with      *̥˚✧

✧*̥˚     younger/beginner artists?      *̥˚✧

Aaah i'm soooo not good at advices. The least I can say is learn and understand your medium completely. For example, i have no idea how advanced layering works in digital for a looong time, and when i finally first did, i regret not learning it earlier because it helps sooo much. Understand your program, or learn hacks for watercolor techniques etc. Very important to make everything easier.
