Synopsis

Shortly after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, a major earthquake hits Japan. Amidst the chaos, siblings Ayumu and Gou of the Mutou household, begin to escape the city with their family of four. The sinking Japanese archipelagos, however, relentlessly pursue the family.

Plunged into extreme conditions, life and death, and the choice of meeting and parting—in the face of dreadful reality, the Mutou siblings believe in the future and acquire the strength to survive with utmost effort.

Thoughts

I can see why this anime didn’t get popular. It gets repetitive and predictable, the drama feels forced, and it seems everything is thrown at the characters every few minutes. The pacing is horrid. However, I believe that the suspense was done well. The impact of the suspense and those goddamn cliffhangers at the end of each episode though… they get annoying, but they succeeded in getting me hooked and wanting to know more. Main protagonist gets pretty annoying too.

And I was surprised and glad to see some Filipino representation in it too! Once I realized the characters were Filipino, the odd and random English and Filipino stereotypes were so accurate lol. They got the accent nearly perfected when saying English lines. And the mum’s selfies addiction made so much more sense! Ahahahah. I love it. And there was some weed too. This anime packed in the things I love. Oh, and I’m not usually the type to crush on older anime guys, but the dad is a DADDY. Damn. And when he first appeared, my cousin yelled out “DAYUMMM HE THICCC!!!” and it killed me. Could not stop laughing. That was a fun watch tbh
