While anime is an awesome way to...well...watch anime, it often lacks something. Something that is only present in the original.

Some anime that are adapted from an original manga series are indeed disappointing in their portrayal of the story. Know that this does NOT mean that manga is better than anime, but just that these anime series could have had so much more potential based on the manga.

Feel free to agree or disagree! Also, if you believe some other manga series is better than its anime, let me know!

-------------- Dean Wonderland --------------

Let's be honest. Dean Wonderland had way too much potential. The plot, which revolves around Ganta's experience in the mysterious jail Dean Wonderland, could have been developed into a stunning product, combining the brilliant idea of blood-control with a thrilling setting. And that's exactly what the manga does. In the manga, the plot is fully developed, with each character revealing a horrid past. The confusing conflict of the Wretched Egg and Ganta is delineated, and the ending is quite beautiful.

HOWEVER

In the anime, while the characters are still very amazing and the animations are indeed incredible, it was simply too short to produce the same effect. The 12 episodes of the anime covered a meager 21 chapters out of 58. With that short of a run, there was no way that the plot and character development could have provided the depth that the manga did. The ending was also incredibly abrupt, leaving quite the bitter taste after it was over.

-------------------- Tokyo Ghoul -------------------

As one of the most popular series in the past year and a half, Tokyo Ghoul sure delivered. Both the concept and the plot were very well done and the drawings in the manga and animations in the anime positively contributed to the effect. The manga, with 143 chapters, goes very in depth into the ghouls vs. humans conflict. The angles and dark illustrations of the manga provided no less of a thrilling effect than the anime did; in fact, some stills or two page spreads gave off even more of a chilling vibe just by being stationary. Although the ending was a massive cliffhanger (thank god for Tokyo Ghoul:re) each important character was able to reveal their past, and the conflict was able to reach an ample climax near the end.

HOWEVER

Just like Dean Wonderland, 24 episodes just isn't gonna cut it. The anime was just too short to build up the same effect as the manga. While the anime was very interesting and the fight scenes were surprisingly well done, the plot, which deviates from the manga after Kaneki goes through his life changing torture, doesn't provide the same amount of blood-curling action and hard-hitting feels that the manga does. (hating on the anime, sue me)

-------------------- Soul Eater --------------------

This was one of my favorite series...that is, the manga only. And here's why. With 113 chapters, the manga, like the two previously mentioned, brought huge satisfaction with its depth of plot. With many more characters and unexpected turns in conflict, including good guys turning bad or bad guys siding with the good, the manga was absolutely beautiful. The characters couldn't have been made more lovable and their powers at the end couldn't have been cooler (although I'm still not sure whether Crona's a girl or guy).

HOWEVER

Don't even get me started on the anime. With two whole seasons, the anime started off completely faithful to the manga...until the last few episodes. In those last few episodes, the anime took such a huge U-turn, it was unbelievable. Not only did the anime skip straight to the last battle without warning, the battle was absolutely one-sided. Maka and the others seemed completely unprepared and apparently had no chance of winning until the last second, when one of the most clichéd morals of all time was delivered with a single finishing punch (courage, of all things...). Overall, I was probably the most disappointed with this anime, as I was truly expecting something great out of it. At least it had a catchy opening.

------------------------------------------------------

--------------------- Beelzebub --------------------

MᎯᏁᎶᎯ That Are Better Than The Ꭿℕℐℳℰ-While anime is an awesome way to...well...watch anime, it often lacks something. Somethi

To be honest, the anime for Beelzebub was not terrible. However, a few key points made the anime really inferior to the manga. The manga, to start with, is completed. With 240 chapters, it is a little on the long side, although for such a well done series, that's not a bad thing at all. The manga is infinitely hilarious and the fight scenes, while somewhat short, are well done. Unlike many long series, such as Naruto and One Piece, the humor persists throughout the story, all the way up to the very end. The gags and jokes of the manga are the true shining points.

HOWEVER

The anime, which stays quite faithful to the manga, lacks in its handling of the humor. Even though the anime could still be considered one of the funniest anime, the manga delivers the jokes miles better. After reading the manga, the anime seems sort of lackluster. Also, surprising the fight scenes in the anime are not as fluid as they are in the anime, quite unorthodox for a shounen series. Like other longer anime, Beelzebub contains filler episodes, which, as everyone here knows, can get quite annoying and boring. All in all, though, I was not too disappointed with the anime, although the manga was still noticeably superior.

-----------------------------------------------------

There you have it. While it can be agreed upon that generally, the manga is usually better than its anime counterpart, these series have manga that are blatantly better than the anime.

Please make some suggestions of other series that are like this. Also if you would like to hate, I'm looking forward to reading it in the comments :3.

FRUITS BASKET.

The anime had a lot of the same lines and such but it didn't capture the feel that it held. I am SO disappointed in the anime. SO disappointed.

I agree. Other ones that fit are:

Toriko ( censored, filler ending because show got canceled)

Terraformars (worse censoring than TG which is amazing in its own way)

Akame ga kill ( anime is done, manga isn't. Took out an entire arc)

Aaahh, I see. I started watching Beelzebub and although I enjoy it fine, it's not as funny as I thought it would be. I'm stuck at one-third of the way through and haven't been motivated to continue. Perhaps I should put the manga in my queue and see. Also, probably not hearing Baby Beel noises while reading would help.
