My friend heard something from youtube about someone regretting learning anime first before realism, so my friend worry about it and don't know where to start, i personally dont know why that person talking like that and don't know the difference between the timing of learning it (꒪⌓꒪)
I didn't learn realism so idk what the different, and i learn anatomy recently which i want my character show more movement by drawing full body. You can see my previous pose the involve of style and some improvement in anatomy :)
It doesn't bother me even if i learn it after, i think? As long as i don't hate it

To keep it short, realism is the foundation of most art styles.
Anime style is nothing else but the simplification of realism.
Which means, when you directly start with the simplification you'll have no clue about life (realism) nor the foundation.
To be a good artist, you need to understand life. You need to understand anatomy, gesture, values/contrast etc.
If you don't, then you'll need to heavily depend on references & do other "mistakes"
Artists who want to improve often draw Anime while studying the foundation/realism and quite often change to a realistic art style or a semi-realistic one.
