Saige Vlog: Painting Clouds!

Hey guys!

It's Saige here and today I'm in Hope's room to show you how to paint clouds!

Now this tutorial is for more cartoony and lumpy clouds. Here is an example of a canvas I did the other day:

Alrighty, let's get started! So I have a piece of paper sectioned off with tape.

This is optional, but I didnt want to waste too much space so that I could do some more tutorials! I will be using this square:

To start off choose a background color. You want this to be a lighter color but not too light because you want the clouds to be able to stand out. I will be using these 2 blues and doing a gradient!

You don't have to do a gradient, you can use a solid color and it can be any color you want! I'm just gonna do the background quickly...

Alright, this will have to do.

Now we can start on the clouds!

First you want to choose where you would like to put the clouds. I will be doing 2 clouds, a big one and a little one.

You want to start with a darker color that matches the background color. If you dont have one, just add a little bit of black to the background color (be careful, black is powerful!). I will be using this color:

Using this color make your cloud shape! You do this by gently dabbing your dry brush with paint on your paper. There is really no right shape for clouds so make them whatever shape you want! Here's mine:

Next we go in with white! Use the same method as before with only a teeny tiny bit of white paint in your brush (still dry brush).

Now we add highlights! You do this by putting a tiny bit of paint on the top of the cloud curve and blending it down with your dry brush.

And Tada! You're done!

If your clouds don't look the way you want them to, don't worry!

I've had a lot of practice and time to reform my clouds. The more you paint, the better you get!
