[System]: The (Almost) Complete Guide

Hello~ Shoujo here with a post about the [System] in "Kumo Desu Ga, Nani Ka?"~

Before we start, a brief description for those that do not know about the verse (Highly Recommended)

"Kumo Desu GA, Nani Ka?" is a Light Novel, a manga, αnd soon to be, anime (Yay!).

"The world where the Hero and the Demon King continue to oppose each other. The grand magic from the Hero and the Demon King cross over worlds and exploded in the classroom of a certain high school.

The students who died in the explosion will be reincarnated in a different world. The protagonist, who had the lowest reputation in the class, was reincarnated into a spider. Nevertheless, she adapted quickly to the present condition with strong willpower.

This is a story of she who has become a spider trying whatever she can to live."

What is MA energy?

Explaining how the world works without first explaining what is MA energy is pretty much impossible, since MA energy is connected to almost everything in the verse and is basically the reason why everything happened.

MA Energy was first discovered by Potimas Hyphenath and was described as an "Infinite energy with no side effects". However, MA energy is neither infinite nor is it perfectly safe. On the contrary, it is the lifeforce of the planet and by consuming it, the world gets closer to destruction.

When the MA energy levels are running out, extreme weather phenomena start appearing all around the world, signifying the end. Droughts, lightning storms any many more. There was also an increase in suicide rates and wars broke out all around the planet as well, but it is not certain that this was caused by the lack of MA energy.

The Creation of the [System]

Regarding the creation of the system, one has to read the Past Arc of the LN/WN. Most irrelevant details wete left, in order to avoid spoiling most of the guys who read the manga.

Potimas Hyphenath discovers the MA energy and presents it to the public, without telling what it actually is. From his research, one could find the means to extract the MA energy with ease. Many countries decide to use this as their energy source, since it was "promoted" as an infinite energy source with no side effects, which shortened the life of the planet. Because of that, a conflict with the dragons, who knew the truth about the MA energy, broke out. The dragons, were superior to humans and their goal at the time was to completely wipe humanity of the face of the planet. The conflict ended with Sariel blocking all of the attacks made from the dragons. The dragons, seeing that they could not best Sariel, decided to leave the planet, robbing it of its energy.

In order to save the world, Potimas Hyphenath proposed a way to save the planet from destruction. That is, to sacrifice the collosal amount of energy in Sariel in order for the world to survive. Sariel accepted the proposa, but a certain dragon could not accept this. Gyurie, unable to stop Sariel from sacrificing herself, she turned to D for help. When Sariel stepped into the device Potimas made to discompose her, D transferred her to her realm and after Sariel agreed, she set the [System] into motion.

When the system was set in motion, the world had changed. The laws of nature were overwritten by the laws D had prescribed.

The [System]

The system is a large, overcomplicated Magecraft that is rooted in the heart of the planet and it affects all of the residents in it. The [System] has many functions, will the main function being the recovery of the MA energy.

Normally, it would be impossible for Humans to replenish the vast amount of energy required to save the world. To do that, the [System] changed the laws of the world. Gunpowder was made useless, natural poisons dissapearred, monsters started appearing out of nowhere and Status values, skills and titles were given to every resident of the world. Using the Goddess Sariel as the battery, it prolonged the life of the world and forced people to replenish the amount of energy and save Sariel.

The way the [System] works is simple. By killing each other, the Humans gain Experience Points. Those experience points empower the Soul directly, raising the Status Values and the power of the skills. Once a living creature dies, all the power accumulated in one's soul, is converted in MA energy. Moreover, the ressurection cycle is forcefully limited inside the system. That means, that while normally one would reincarnate in a random place, they are forcefully kept in the system, so they can reincarnate again and again. Fight, kill, die and restart, in order to replenish the MA energy.

The purpose of the system, is supposed to be "Die, so the Goddess you betrayed can live again", however, the real reason can be something else. One possibility, is that the [System] is a tool in order to create Gods. After all, Gods are just creatures with massive amount of energy inside of them (D mentions that even planets can be a form of gods depending on the interpretation). By making them fight, the Soul is empowered, increasing the energy inside the soul. Of course, it is still very hard to become a God, but it is not impossible either.

Levels, Status Values, Skills and Titles

In the system, each and every human has skills, status values and levels.

Starting with the most simple term, Levels are like the levels in a game. Killing opponents gives the killer experience points, raising their level. For humans, Levels just increase their status values, but for monsters, levels also trigger evolution, allowing them to become more powerful. The original monsters created by the [System] were prototypes, and thus, were very weak. Possibly, after they underwent evolution, they became more powerful and reached the state that they are today.

Status Values are numbers that represent the power of the individual. According to Ariel, the original status values were generated by the original abilities of the person. It is also made clear that the Status that was given were like a boost. In other words, the status values made all the individuals stronger. That is further ed by the existence of the skill [n%I=W] which s the reincarnators. This skill allows the reincarnators to receive the blessings of the system. Without it, they could be beaten by modern day children. In other words, a child in the system is stronger than a Adult in our world. This is how much the System empowered the souls of the inhabitants. However, there is a downside to this. The system has a limit. The status Values cannot exceed 99999.

The Status values are consisted of HP (Hit Points), MP (Mana Points), SP (Stamina Points), Average Offensive Ability (Physical Attack Power), Average Defensive Ability (Physical Resistance) Average Magic Ability (Magic Attack Power), Average Resistance Ability (Magic Resistance Ability), Average Speed Ability.

The other important ability that the [System] gave to the inhabitants is the ability to gain skills. The skills in the system are like the skills in a game, but more diverse. There are two kinds of skills; ive and active. ive skills are the ones that are always active. An example for those, are [Idaten], [Herculean Strength] and [Destiny]. ive skills have various effects that empower the . The ones I mentioned improve the Status Values and add a correction when levelling up. A correction is basically a multiplier that boosts the growth of the individual. For example, if by level up a normal person gained 3 points in speed, a person with the [Idaten] skill would get 300 points instead. For the active skills, a fine example would be Magic. Fire Magic, Water Magic and so on are all active skills that drain mana and some even drain SP (Stamina Points)

Skills have levels as well, and they can evolve into more powerful skills when reachingax level. Level 1 is the weakest, while Level 10 is the strongest. There are some skills that do not have a level, which means that they have already reached the upper limit. Weaker skills, unify with the stronger skill, but there are cases where that doesn't happen (Magic Skills do no merge).

Let's take [Shadow Magic] for example. Shadow Magic is the weakest skill and it manipulated shadows. It can enlarge them, make them appear in light and enter them as well. When it reaches Lvl 10, it evolves into [Dark Magic Lvl1]. Dark magic is mage for offense, and while its power is not great, it not small either. When it reaches Lvl 10, it evolves into [Darkness Magic Lvl10]. The potency of the magic increases greatly with the strongesy attack of it being [Darkness World] which is able to annihilate entire armies. Lastly, once [Darkness Magic] reaches Lvl 10, it evolves into [Abyss Magic], which is undoubtedly the most complex and most powerful magic in the [System].

Among the skills, there are 14 special skills that are named after the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Virtues. Each of them is incredibly powerful by there are severe consequences for using them. Main downsides of these skills, are the destruction of one's soul, and the use of [Divine Area] which makes the ascension to a God harder. These skills are already Max Rank and cannot be leveled up. Moreover, the is able to manipulate a part of the world via [Ruler Authority] which is stills mystery. The only thing we know, is that via the [Ruler Authority] one is able to block the [Appraisal] of others and that if someone has all of them, they can interfere with the system and destroy it.

While Status Values and skills can be obtained by hard work, Titles can be obtained by simply doing certain actions. Most of the time, the actions needed are easy as well (For example, the title "Gross Feeder" is given to anyone who eats bad tasting food). When acquiring a Title, one gets a ive effect that corresponds to the title. For example, [Dragon Killer] gives the extra damage against dragons.

Titles also give certain skills when they are acquired. For example, if one gets the [Pride] skill, he also gets the title [Ruler of Pride] which gives the skills [Abyss Magic Lvl10] and [Hell].

Apotheosis

Another feature of the System, which happens to be the reason that the true purpose of the System is the creation of God.

Apotheosis originates from the Greek word "Αποθέωση" which means, "The Ascention to Godhood.

I know that I have mentioned it some times already, but a God in the "Spider Verse" is just a creature with a massive amount of Energy inside them.

The system has a special skill which is called [Divinity Area Expansion] which has a very vague description and it's purpose is unclear. Until it reaches Lvl 10, it is a skill with an unknown effect that does't seem to be useful. However, once it is maxed out, the falls unconscious for a long time (47 days in Shiraori's case) and loses the assistance of the [System]. That includes skills, levels, titles. Although, technically, the status values are also lost, because the person is set free from the restrictions of the system, he becomes stronger. Shiraori mentions that right after the [Apotheosis], her status values easily sured 100.000 on numerical values. This also means, that she is by far stronger and faster that everyone in the system and it makes it impossible for anyone in the system to defeat her. Thus, once someone undergoes [Apotheosis] they become a God and are given the right from D to become an .

The system created by D, is a prototype. Which means, that there are defects she refers to as "Bugs". The s are responsible for correcting the bugs and for keeping the balance of the world. s aremnot restrained by the System and are residing outside the System. In other words, they act as the GM of a game and they also perform maintenance to it. The s are creatures with a massive amount of energy inside of them (AKA, Gods). Because of the restraints of the system, a creature from within the system has no chance of beating a God. Of course, there are some exceptions which I will explain later.

Hidden Effects of the System

While the [System] seems to be quite favourable to the inhabitants of the world, it isn't perfect. It has many defects, some of them even go against the collection of the MA energy.

The features that decrease the MA energy, are two. The first one, we have already covered. It is the Title system I explained above. Why does it expend MA energy? That's because, skills aren't acquired from nothing. Normally, working hard is enough for the skills to rise. So, one could say that the skills are acquired from hard work and the assistance of the [System]. But what about Titles? They are given to a lot of people and without them working or doing anything else. So, what s the compensation for the title? As you might have guessed, it's the MA energy. Titles drain the planet's MA energy, although, it's such a small amount it goes unnoticed. Even if a person acquires a lot of titles, once be dies, the MA energy returned is more than the MA energy consumed.

The other feature lies in the [Demon King] and the [Hero] skills. Those skills have a special feature that allows them to overcome each other. For example, even if the Demon King is superior to the Hero in each and every way, the Hero will still be able to defeat the Demon King and Vise Versa. The amount of energy required for the Hero to reach the Demon King is drained from the planet.

The amount of energy, is insignificant. However, the skills have one more use. The ability to consume energy to attack a target outside the system, exceeding it's limitations. The body of the Hero and the Demon King cannot possibly withstand an enormous amount of energy needed to fight someone outside the system. So, in the end, the Ability granted to them via the [Hero] and [Demon King] skills is suicide attack. A suicide attack against the Gods. The amount of energy required for that attack, is obviously enormous. After all, they need to have energy on par with their enemy. In which case, Gods have enormous amounts of energy, some even have enough to completely heal a damaged planet. Although the reason for such a "faulty" feature is not certain, Shiro believes it is a measure to fight against outside forces which may decide to invade the planet.

Main Defect of the [System]

Up till now, I only mentioned the features and benefits of the system. Although some bad side effects existed they were intentional. However, there is one massive defect in the system. That is, the stain on the soul.

As I mentioned above, the [System] makes the inhabitants stronger by empowering their souls, making them stronger. Once a person dies, the power is returned to the planet as MA Energy and the person is reincarnated again. In order to repeat this process. The problem with this is, that the souls have been fighting continuously for a really long time. (A certain person has reincarnated 61 times and it is possible he almost never died young.). This would mean, that the system exists for more than 3000 years. Fighting for so long has worn out the souls of the inhabitants. They have become weaker and the progress they make is slower. Some have even gotten completely shattered by the continuous abuse of the [System]. That means, there is a chance Humanity will cease to exist before the [System] completes it's purpose of collecting the MA Energy.
